Visit Podolia, the Carpathians, Lviv, Odessa, Kiev. Incredible beauty places and cities of Ukraine, from where we all draw spiritual sources of our life.
This 10-day walking tour is a great opportunity to explore the history of the Jewish community in Ukraine, as well as to discover the names of the great Jewish people that contributed to the history of the Jeiwsh Ukraine. During the tour you will visit the Jewish quarter, enter the main synagogue and see some monuments dedicated to famous Jewish people.

Day 1, Sunday
Arrival in Lviv. Panorama tour, accommodation and stay overnight.
Day 2, Monday
Lviv and the Lviv region.
In Lviv, we shall visit medieval Jewish quarter, the ruins of the Golden Rose Synagogue where used to pray TaZ (Rabbi David Ha-Levi) – the author of “Turei Zahav”; wonderful quarters of the Old City and many sights connected to the glorious Jewish Past of the city.
In the afternoon, we begin our journey through the shtetls of Galicia. In Brody, which was an important Rabbinic Jewish center, we shall see the remnants of the Great Synagogue; next to it was located the “Kloiz of Brod” where famous Talmudic and Kabbalah scholars studied. Golden Street – trade center of the town; and the unique old Jewish cemetery where every gravestone carries poems and stories of the people who used to live here. – Leaving Brody, we going back to the hotel for dinner and staying overnight.
Day 3, Tuesday
Lviv – Zolkiev – Belz – Peremyshliani – Ivano-Frankivsk
Leaving Lviv, we continue our journey through the shtetls of Galicia. – Zolkiev. This small nice town was a center of Rabbinic life and Jewish book printing, and it even used to be the residence of the kings of Poland. We shall also visit a wonderful preserved baroque fortified synagogue. – Belz. The cradle of the famous Chassidic dynasty of Rokeach family. The shtetl which lost its glory still houses the Jewish cemetery where the founders of the dynasty rest. – Permyshliani, the shtetl of the legendary Rabbi Meir, and his ohel. – In the evening we arrive in Ivano-Frankivsk (former Stanislawow) for overnight stay.
Day 4, Wednesday
Ivano-Frankovsk – Yaremche – Bukovel – Ivano-Frankovsk
On this day we ascend to the tops of Carpathians, learn the local culture and enjoy wonderful landscapes. The program includes a visit to Bukovel ski center, cable road, waterfalls and mountain passes, jeep rides and more.
At the end of the day we come back to Ivano-Frankovsk for a musical folklore event and the rest.
Day 5, Thursday
Ivano-Frankovsk – Buczacz – Mezhibozh – Vinnitza
In the morning we shall visit the Tempel – big synagogue still operated by a small Jewish community, and the beautiful market square of Ivano-Frankivsk.
The next stop will be in Buczacz – the legendary home town of Shai Agnon, the famous Jewish writer and the Noble prize winner. The unforgettable journey in Buczacz with Agnon’s book in the hand, seeing his heroes come to life with the background that is still telling the stories from the times of the Austrian Empire.
– Medzhibozh – the shtetl of Baal Shem Tov and his disciples, where the first Chassidic community was founded. We shall see the beautiful fortress from 15-16th cc., reconstructed shul (kloiz) of BeSHT, the ruins of the synagogue where BaCH (Bait Hadash) prayed and served as city rabbi, and ascend to the unique graveyard where Baal Shem Tov and his followers rest.
Late in the evening we come to hotel in Vinnitza. If the graphic suits, we also attend the “singing Roshen fountains”.
Day 6, Friday
Vinnitza – Berdichev – Zhitomir – Kiev
In the morning we go to the Second World War monument located in the forest where the Wehrwolf headquarters of Hitler were located. – Berdichev. City of “Israel’s advocate” – Rabbi Levi Yitzhak of Berdichev. Tour in the historical city center, visit at the tomb of Rabbi Levi-Yitzhak, visiting the old synagogue that survived, and reading some funny pages the Jewish writers wrote about Berdichev and its Jews.
On our way to Kiev we shall pass in Zhitomir and see the house where the Jewish national poet H.-N. Bialik lived.

Day 7, Shabat
On Shabbat, we shall have free time, prayers and meals in the local Jewish community, and walking tours through the downtown of the city, including the Kreszatik Avenue and Independence Square where the “Revolution of Dignity” took place in 2014.
Day 8, Sunday
Sightseeing in Kiev. Visiting Babiy Yar memorial, the Great Synagogue of Kiev, folk art museum, Great Victory monument, the Museum of Treasures. Option for shopping session at one of the world-biggest outlets.
Day 9, Monday
Kiev – Uman – Odessa
Uman is one of the most visited sites in the Jewish world, thanks to the grave of Rebbe Nachman of Breslov who had chosen to be buried in this city in 1809. We shall attend the Rabbi’s grave neighborhood and the beautiful dendrology park called Sofia.
In Odessa, we shall have a boat ride combined with the dinner on the Black Sea, celebrating the approaching end of our expedition.
Day 10, Tuesday
Tour around the Jewish sites of Odessa together with writers, merchants, Zionists who rendered the city its unique image. We walk with the life stories and works of Bialik, Zhabotinsky, Lilienblum, Ahad Ha-Am and Dubnov, Sholom-Aleikhem and Mendele, Rabbi Chaim Chernovitz and many others. We shall also see the wonderful downtown of Odessa, the sea port, Potemkin stairway and the Opera, visit the synagogues and Jewish institutions acting in the city.
In the afternoon we shall have a special experience attending the underground catacombs of Odessa, built by the hands of smugglers, criminals and partisans, which became today one of the most popular Odessa attractions.
In the evening we leave for the flights to US.
